A day of professional development for people working in education or libraries in professional or para-professional capacities organized by ISS-LN (International Schools of Singapore -- Library Network) Conference Committee Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Australian International School Singapore click here for a map Special guests: Marj Kirkland -- incoming National President of the Children's Book Council of Australia , 2009-2010 -- will present a short keynote address exploring the importance of reading with a focus on bridging "the gap of understanding" within texts and in the world. Kerrie Smith -- Executive Officer, Education.au limited ( a not-for-profit ministerially owned company, governed through a Board by nominees from the Australian Government, higher education, school education, and vocational education and training sectors) -- will be offering workshops linked to her work in Professional Learning and Online Communities. Kirpal Singh -- poet, literary and cultural critic, and Associate Professor of English Language and Literature at Singapore Management University -- will give an address and offer workshops on the importance of reading local literature. Apologies - Kirpal's session has been cancelled due to other committments Roger Jenkins -- drama teacher, poet, playwright and above all storyteller, will close the day telling some stories for participants to savour and share in your library, your home or even your classroom.
